So for the past few weeks I’ve been looking into NFTs as a way to design and sell virtual copies of my real-life knitted items. So I was thrilled when I came across DressX. DressX is an app where you can upload a picture of yourself and put digital clothing on, much of which looks very real (assuming you care). According to the website, you can wear digital clothing anywhere that’s digital, like in photos, video chats,etc.. You can’t wear it to real-life encounters, but who has them anymore? Seriously.
More importantly, you don’t have to own a bunch of physical material that you (or some of you, anyway) will wear once and discard, or leave in your closet to take up space until either you get around to sorting through it all or Armageddon happens – whichever comes first. Plus everything you wear is equally as comfortable as whatever you actually have on. I personally have no problem spending my physical existence in a T-shirt dress while my online persona ramps up the style.

Previously my thoughts were to make virtual clothing that could be worn by avatars in games or virtual worlds such as AltspaceVR, but DressX has me thinking way beyond that.
With what I plan to do, my designs would be replicas of real clothing, but not throwaway real clothing; I’m talking about one-of-a-kind items that are hand-crafted and sustainably produced. The physical item could be the prototype for whatever number of virtual items I choose to create NFTs for, but only the original item would use any physical resources to produce, clean, or store.
Excited to move into this next phase of my vocation.
